Shifting Horizons
Hyde Park Arts Center
October 24, 2026 – February 4, 2027
Opening Program: October 26, 2026
Shifting Horizons lifts up visions of freedom, decolonization, and collective care by artists whose practices are shaped by, and respond to, the many manifestations of war.
Through film, weaving, performance, and visual art, this exhibition’s artists engage with familial histories of migration, land-based memories, and acts of reconnection, defiance, resistance, and love to insist that other horizons remain possible beyond our inherited borders. Together, they invite us to explore how land, memory, and movement can become spaces of mourning, refusal, dignity, and radical possibility.
Featuring artists Hanaa Malallah, Eric Garcia, Amanda Raquel Dorval (Nuyorican-Dominican-US), Ash Kyrie, Fanny Garcia, Dylan Miner (Métis Nation of Ontario), Venancio Aragon (Diné) and more.
The Hyde Park Art Center is located at 5020 S. Cornell Avenue Chicago, IL 60615.
Shifting Horizons is one of the four featured exhibitions of the 2026 Veteran Art Triennial, RESISTING THE LONG WAR curated by Aaron Hughes, Mohamed Mehdi, and Amber Zora. The Triennial highlights artists’ creative defiance to war and militarism. The featured artworks lift up overlapping legacies of war resistance, presenting alternative visions of peace, healing, and justice generated by diverse communities impacted by war.
Additional Triennial exhibitions are at the Chicago Cultural Center, Elmhurst Art Museum, and Walls Turned Sideways. The exhibition receptions will take place during the Veteran Art Summit November 5-8, 2026.
