Community Health Workshop with Tension and Trauma Releasing Exercises Hosted by Lovella Calica

  • Hyde Park Art Center - MMR 5020 S Cornell Ave Chicago (map)

Lovella Calica will lead a community health workshop focused on TRE exercises (Tension and Trauma Releasing Exercises)—a simple series of exercises that assist the body in releasing deep muscular patterns of stress, tension and trauma. Created by Dr. David Berceli, PhD, TRE safely activates a natural reflex mechanism of shaking or vibrating that releases muscular tension, calming down and resetting the nervous system. When this process is activated in a safe and controlled environment, the body is able to return back to a state of balance.

Calica has been providing TRE sessions to veterans, social justice advocates, children, women, artists, and others since 2015. Calica will begin the workshop with an overview of TRE, how bodies react to stress/fear, how the TRE process works, and what to expect during the session. After the introduction, there will be some movements and exercises, then people will be asked to lay on the ground for a shaking exercise for ten to fifteen minutes. Throughout this time, Calica will check in with folks and make suggestions and offer adjustments. Afterwards, there will be a short debrief.

TRE is a transformative relaxation tool that can decrease stress and anxiety and increase one’s ability to handle the ongoing stress of life. If you want more information on TRE, visit www.traumaprevention.com
